Hi Gals!

As I’ve mentioned, I love awards season. And The Academy Awards (AKA The Oscars) is the grand finale, the grand dame, the piece de resistance. It’s all about glamour, opulent fashion and moving (whether by a laugh or a tear) speeches.

It has become tradition to watch The Oscars with my dad. We share a love of celebrity gossip and fashion. It’s what bonds us. Last night we got to critique both the phenomenal and questionable red carpet looks. And this morning, I perused all the Vanity Fair party looks to come up with a comprehensive breakdown of the good and the bad from the 2024 Oscars. There were quite a few trends of the evening. Peplum dresses, metallics, and the floating shoulder strap made their mark.

BEST DRESSED

Carey is my top pick of the night. She looks absolutely regal and glamorous. I love her bare decolettage that really allows the sweetheart neckline of her dress to have it’s moment along with those magnificent gloves. America comes next paying homage to Barbie in this pink metallic dress that fits her like a glove. This is another very flattering neckline and I love how the dress just slinks onto her body. Third up is Charlize as the champagne goddess. This Grecian gown with a modern twist looks simply stunning on her and I love her diamond studded chokers and sleek back hair.

ALMOST WINNERS

Now these next looks were almost there but just left me wanting more. Or in some cases, less.

Emily looks like a queen, I love the material, pearlescent shimmer, silhouette, and her hair, makeup and jewels are exquisite. But I’m still struggling with the floating sleeves (I’m fighting the urge to push the dress down) and, OH MY GOODNESS what is with the bejeweled underwear outline?!? Emma is another look that I’m so close to loving. She pulled off the peplum dress. And I’m obsessed with her necklace. HOWEVER, I wish the dress had slightly more mint pigment. It was just a bit too close to white for me. Now, Margot really has me confused. She has been hitting it out of the park all awards season and while she looks beautiful and this dress is good, it’s just not GREAT. I don’t particularly care for the waist draping and while I love black and love the metallic, I was hoping for a more memorable color from her. Perhaps if this was in silver or gold, I would have been blown away.

WORST DRESSED

It looks like she wrapped her bed sheet and duvet cover around herself after getting caught with another woman’s husband.

VANITY FAIR OSCAR PARTY

Now as we all know, after the party is the AFTER PARTY. And the Vanity Party is where ALL the celebrities go after the Oscars. Even the celebs that didn’t get invited to the Oscars. Hi Kardashians. And for the movie stars, it is an opportunity to showcase a second look. Because one gown is not enough, we need two.
